Daily maintenance of Thangka

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you sincerely for choosing Zendo Thangka Studio and bringing one of our sacred Thangka artworks into your life! We are deeply honored that you have entrusted us to share a piece of this profound spiritual and artistic tradition with you. Each Thangka is meticulously created with devotion, intention, and respect for its cultural and religious significance.

Your Thangka is more than just a beautiful piece of art; it is a vessel of spiritual energy, mindfulness, and cultural heritage. To help you honor its sacred nature and ensure its longevity, we kindly ask you to observe the following traditional precautions and care guidelines:

## Important Precautions & Respectful Handling

1. **Sacred Placement:** Traditionally, Thangkas are considered sacred objects. Please place your Thangka in a clean, respectful space within your home, ideally at or above eye level. Avoid placing it on the floor, in bathrooms, bedrooms (especially near feet), or in areas prone to clutter or disregard.

2. **Mindful Handling:** When handling your Thangka, please do so with clean hands and a mindful attitude. Avoid touching the painted surface directly as much as possible, as natural oils from skin can affect the pigments over time.

3. **Avoid Direct Sunlight:** Prolonged exposure to strong, direct sunlight can cause the vibrant mineral and organic pigments to fade significantly. Please hang or display your Thangka away from windows with intense sun exposure.

4. **Humidity & Temperature:** Protect your Thangka from extremes of humidity and temperature. High humidity can promote mold growth, while very dry conditions can cause the silk or cotton to become brittle. Avoid hanging it near radiators, fireplaces, or air conditioning vents.

5. **Storage:** If storing your Thangka, roll it gently (painted side facing inward) around a sturdy, acid-free tube slightly larger than the image area. Wrap it in clean, natural fabric (like cotton or silk) and place it in a protective box in a cool, dry, dark place. *Never fold it.*

## The Blessings & Benefits of Your Thangka

We believe your Thangka will bring more than aesthetic beauty to your space:

* **Spiritual Focus & Meditation:** Thangkas are designed as tools for contemplation and meditation. Gazing upon the intricate imagery can help calm the mind, deepen focus, and inspire spiritual connection or personal reflection.

* **Positive Energy & Blessings:** Traditionally, Thangkas are believed to emanate the blessings and qualities of the deities or sacred symbols they depict, helping to cultivate peace, compassion, wisdom, or protection within the environment.

* **Cultural Connection:** Owning a Thangka connects you to a rich, ancient artistic and spiritual tradition spanning centuries in the Himalayas. It is a unique piece of living cultural heritage.

* **Artistic Inspiration:** The incredible detail, symbolism, and craftsmanship offer endless visual interest and appreciation, serving as a constant source of inspiration and wonder.

## Simple Care

* Dust gently with a very soft, clean brush (like a large, soft makeup brush or artist's brush). *Do not use cleaning products, liquids, or cloths.*

* If professional cleaning or restoration is ever needed, please seek out a conservator experienced with Asian paintings on textile.

Thank you once again for supporting Zendo Thangka Studio and for honoring the tradition of Thangka art. We hope your piece brings you profound beauty, peace, and inspiration for many years to come.
